Development Seminar for Historically Black Colleges and Universities =
(HBCUs)=20
offering MBA degrees, April 10-13, 2003 at the OMNI Hotel, Atlanta, =
Georgia. The=20
Board of Governors of Opportunity Funding Corporation provided grants to =
underwrite the cost of the Seminar during 2000 and 2001. The OFC =
Governors in=20
pursuit of =93Bridging the Entrepreneurial Gap,=94 is also underwriting =
the cost of=20
the 2003 program. Our program has experienced a tremendous growth in =
size and=20
popularity over the last three years. As a result, an increasing number =
of=20
organizations are supporting our efforts including, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, and =
Management=20
Education Alliance.

The =
Opportunity=20
Funding Corporation (OFC) is a Section 501 (c) (e) not-for profit =
corporation=20
which was created in 1970 to facilitate the ownership of for-profit =
business=20
entities by minorities and other disadvantaged persons through provision =
of=20
investment capital. OFC, by utilizing guarantees, direct loans and =
equity=20
investments, has generated in excess of $66 million in capital for over =
184=20
minority owned companies in 35 states. Through equity investments in =
financial=20
intermediaries such as OFC, Inc., Syndicated Communications, Inc., =
S&L=20
Acquisition Company, Inc., OFC has generated another $200 million in =
financings=20
from banks, insurance companies, venture capital companies and others =
for=20
literally hundreds of additional small business =
concerns.
At =
inception,=20
OFC=92s primary mission was to be a risk taker which tested various =
models for the=20
stimulation of minority business development. OFC was initially funded =
by the=20
United States government Office of Economic Opportunity during the=20
administration of President Nixon in the amount of $7 million. OFC =
Governor=20
David Hertz and the late John G. Gloster, a former Atlanta bank =
executive and=20
OFC official, presented the OFC concept directly to President Nixon. OFC =
was=20
spun out of the federal government during the Carter administration as a =
not-for-profit organization. In 1984, OFC created OFC, Inc. to serve as =
a=20
for-profit holding company and transferred a substantial amount of its =
assets to=20
OFC, Inc. which, in turn, further transferred these assets into the=20
capitalization of Syncom and Fulcrum. These entities, Syncom and =
Fulcrum, served=20
as the financing vehicle for the hundreds of minority entrepreneurs who =
have=20
successfully launched minority business enterprises nationwide right up =
to the=20
present day.

a member of the consortium of Historically Black Colleges and =

(HBCUs) known as the Atlanta University Center (AUC). Clark Atlanta =

has undergraduate and graduate enrollments of about 5,000 students along =

275 full-time faculty. Clark Atlanta is the largest institution in the =
AUC and=20
located in the heart of Atlanta. It offers undergraduate, masters, =
professional=20
and doctoral degrees.

Business
The Clark Atlanta =

School of Business with its diverse faculty and integrated curricula =
prepares=20
undergraduate students for professional careers in accounting, finance,=20
marketing, international business, general management and =
entrepreneurship.=20
Masters of Business Administration (MBA) students pursue advanced =
courses in=20
business management with concentrations in marketing, finance or =
decision=20
science. The School offers MBA programs and undergraduate degrees that =
are fully=20
accredited by the AACSB, the International Association for Management =
Education.=20
There are approximately 800 undergraduate and 150 graduate students =
currently=20
enrolled in degree programs at the School.

Business, Dr. Edward Davis, has a distinguished record of achievement in =
quantitative analysis, strategic planning, information systems and=20
entrepreneurship. There are over 30 full-time faculty with 23 doctoral =

and a graduate placement rate of 85%. =20
In the November 1998 issue of Business Week, the School of =
Business was ranked #2 as the best return on your investment for all =

schools. In addition, the =

Business continues to graduate the largest number of African American =

Dr. Mohammad Ali =
Bhuiyan,=20
currently an Associate Professor and Director of the OFC Venture =
Challenge at=20
Clark Atlanta University, received his Ph.D. degree from the University =
of=20
Florida, two MBAs from Georgia State University and the Indian Institute =
of=20
Management-Bangalore. He has also received leadership and other =
educational=20
trainings from the Center for Creative Leadership, Emory University, =
Duke=20
University, ACE, UC-Berkley, Harvard University Kennedy School of =
Government and=20
Harvard Business School.
He has worked as =
a=20
marketing executive and consultant for the British American Tobacco, =
Pfizer,=20
UNDP, FAO, and a number of other corporations. Before joining Clark =
Atlanta=20
University, he taught and served as Assistant Dean and Department Head =
at=20
Hampton University, Fort Valley State University, Savannah State =
University,=20
University of Florida and the University of Dhaka.
Dr. Bhuiyan's =

teaching and research interest is in the areas of international business =
management, entrepreneurship and leadership. He offers training programs =

people from different cultures and different ethnic background to =

associations.
Dr. Bhuiyan is a =

grant writer and an excellent fund-raiser. He has received many grants =

fundraising efforts for many organizations totaling millions of dollars. =
He has also served on several nonprofit, civic, =

economic development boards of directors, including Better Business Bureau, =
